Dr. Christopher Belkofer, PhD, ATR-BC, LPC
Dr. Christopher Belkofer is licensed as a professional counselor and is a board-certified art therapist with over 25 years of experience. While he works with clients of all ages, he specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults for whom traditional approaches of talk therapy may not be effective. In addition, he often employs the creative process and various forms of expressive media to promote effective coping skills, personal expression, self-regulation, and other resources that may lead to improved mental health. Finally, Dr. Belkofer works with high achieving young men and couples. His approach to treatment is firmly rooted in interpersonal neuroscience, and he draws heavily from evidence-based approaches.
In addition to his work at CLARA, Dr. Belkofer is a full Professor at Mount Mary University, where he has taught in the Graduate Art Therapy Program for 15 years. His pioneering research on art therapy and the brain has been published in peer-reviewed journals and cited in hundreds of publications. A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Belkofer is a member of the International Art Therapy and Neuroscience Collective, has supervised numerous doctoral dissertations, serves as a reviewer for several academic journals, and his research has even been cited by the British Broadcasting Association (Art for Heroes). A dynamic and engaging speaker, Dr. Belkofer has presented nationally and internationally and facilitated creative workshops for corporate leadership organizations.
