United Minds: A Men's Group
Social psychologists have identified increased mental health concerns for boys and men of all ages. At the same time, there remains a lack of positive examples of healthy masculinity as well as opportunities and spaces for men to gather and connect free of work, competition, and alcohol. This group provides a safe, confidential space for men to connect, explore and address shared issues, and to challenge traditional masculine norms. This group is for men seeking support, fun and meaningful connection, and opportunities to reduce social isolation and improve emotional awareness, communication skills, and overall mental wellness.
Topics that will be explored include:
Identifying and effectively managing stress, anxiety, and depression
Improving communication skills and intimacy in relationships
Navigating divorce, fatherhood, and family dynamics
Deconstructing the societal expectations and models of traditional masculinity on boys, young men, and adults
Finding meaning and purpose
How to an effective role model to others
How to develop an authentic identity
We will explore and practice various techniques to reframe negative beliefs and thought patterns that contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression via group processing, open dialogue, and creative experiential and skills-based activities such as role-playing and visual art making. Members are encouraged to hold each other accountable for their goals in a respectful, compassionate and supportive manner.
This group is facilitated by Dr. Chris Belkofer, a professional counselor and art therapist with over 20 years of experience leading groups, trainings, and workshops. He is getting greyer by the minute, former cross country and tracker runner, and old school 1980’s skateboarder, who is also a practicing artist and musician, as well as a proud husband and father.
